Packed with antioxidants and other health benefits, a glass of water with the juice of half a lemon revitalizes the body and mind. Here are 10 reasons to drink it first thing:
1 Supports the immune system: The juice of half a lemon in a glass of water is rich in vitamin C, which helps boost the immune system and assists the body in fighting colds and flu. Nutritionists says lemon also enhances the body’s ability to absorb iron, an important nutrient for a healthy immune system. “Vitamin C may increase non-heme iron bioavailability fourfold,”. “This refers to iron availability in the body from non-meat sources.”
2 Aids digestion: As lemon juice is similar in atomic structure to the stomach’s digestive juices, it has a positive effect on the gastrointestinal tract. It helps cleanse the bowel by flushing out waste more efficiently and stimulates the release of gastric juices, which aid digestion. The digestive qualities of lemon juice can also help relieve symptoms of indigestion, heartburn and bloating.
3 Repairs skin: Lemons are great for combating skin aging, . The antioxidant properties help combat free radical damage, which is responsible for the symptoms of aging. “We know that lemons are rich in vitamin C and that is really what creates collagen synthesis, which is wonderful in terms of keeping wrinkles at bay,” she says. “Vitamin C is required in the synthesis of amino acids into collagen and the job of collagen and connective tissue is to hold things tight and protect our skin tissue.”
4 Reduces appetite: Lemons contain pectin, a soluble fibre commonly found in citrus fruits. Pectin helps stave off hunger as the fibre creates a feeling of fullness, which results in the suppression of hunger cravings. By feeling fuller for longer,
you’re less likely to snack or make poor
5 Balances pH levels: Lemons are one of the most alkalizing alkalizing foods for the body and a good pH level is essential as too much acidity in the body can be inflammatory. “Lemon water is very alkalizing and most of us have acidic bodies,” “Educated foodies still think of lemons as being acidic when they are quite alkalizing.”
6 Cleanses the urinary tract: Lemon juice is a diuretic, meaning it encourages the production of urine. As a result, toxins are released at a faster rate, helping to purify the system and keep it healthy. Lemon juice can also change the pH level of the urinary tract which discourages the proliferation of bad bacteria.
7 Freshens breath: The antiseptic qualities in lemon juice help kill off bad bacteria in the mouth by acting as a disinfectant. A glass of lemon water is also a healthier morning wake-you-up than coffee. While there is no evidence-based research on lemon water’s optimal temperature, recommends drinking it at room temperature. “Most health professionals agree room temperature is closer to your own body’s temperature and seems to calm the digestive system,” she says. If you’re concerned about the acid harming tooth enamel, rinse your mouth with water afterwards. “You would have to drink copious amounts of lemon water to strip the enamel,” .
8 Protects overall health: High levels of potassium in lemons can help brain and nerve functioning and control blood pressure. Lemon water can also ward off stress and depression, which have been linked to low levels of potassium. Lemons also contain vitamin P, which improves capillary permeability and overall blood flow.
9 Promotes healing: Ascorbic acid, vitamin C, promotes wound healing in the body and is an important nutrient in maintaining healthy bones, tissue and cartilage. It also calms inflammation in the body.
“Vitamin C travels through the body, neutralising any free radicals,” Chevalley Hedge says. “Free radicals can interact with the healthy cells of the body, damaging them and their membranes and causing inflammation.”
10 Detoxifies the liver: Lemon water acts as a liver cleanser by assisting in detoxification. It purifies and stimulates the liver by encouraging the production of bile, an acid required for digestion. Lemon water can also help control excess bile flow, decrease the amount of phlegm produced by the body and assist in dissolving gallstones.

Everyone has their food preferences and there are countless diets out there encouraging different food choices. But water is the one thing we all consume every single day. But could drinking a lot of water actually help you lose weight?
Several studies have found that among people who are following a weight-loss plan, those who drank the most water lost the most weight.
An overall increase in consumption isn’t the only way water has been linked to weight loss.
Research suggests that drinking water before meals can expedite weight loss. In two studies, researchers found that overweight people who drank 500ml (around 17 ounces) of water a half hour before every meal lost more weight than those who didn’t consume pre-meal water.
It’s highly unlikely that water itself has weight loss properties. But it definitely has the ability to help you feel full. It’s surprisingly common to mistake thirst for hunger, so sipping on water throughout the day can eliminate so-called hunger pangs, which is probably going to result in less food consumption. And reducing your food intake is what’s going to keep the number on the scale moving down!
Unlike so many other beverages, water is also calorie-free. Even “healthy” drinks like 100 percent fruit juice, naturally sweetened iced tea, and vegetable-boosted smoothies add calories to your daily intake. Every time you reach for water instead of another beverage, you’re saving yourself from excess calories.
And as we all know, excess calories generally lead to excess weight.
It's not a magical weight loss elixir, but by incorporating water into a weight-loss-centric food plan and exercise routine, you’re definitely upping your chances of weight loss success!
If you're bored by plain water, try one of these ideas..
Sparkling water. The fizziness of carbonated water makes it more interesting. Make your own using a SodaStream or buy cans at the store. Just make sure you don’t get anything with added sugar.
* Spike it with citrus. A lemon wedge isn’t your only option. Try a squeeze of lime, a slice of grapefruit, or an orange wedge.
* Switch up the temperature. Water doesn’t have to be served ice cold. In fact, some people find it harder to drink that way. Pour yourself some room-temp or hot water for a change of pace.
* Flavor infusions. Fill a pitcher with water and experiment by adding different fruits, herbs, or even veggies. Try strawberries, mint, and cucumber or go for a mix of sliced apples and peaches. Refrigerate the pitcher overnight, and in the morning you’ll have lightly flavored water that can be enjoyed all day long.
Fun tip. Get a cute water bottle and bring it with you everywhere. This will help ensure you drink more water.

Aloe vera juice is packed with vitamins A, C, B1, B2, B3 and B6 , folic acid and minerals like magnesium, zinc, iron, calcium, and potassium, which can keep you in good health. The Reasons to Drink
1. Incredible Benefits of Polysaccharides
Active aloe vera leaves are reported to contain over 200 enzymes and amino acids, plus the unique aloe vera polysaccharides. Modern science has not been able to synthetically manufacture the polysaccharides in active aloe vera. They are unique to the aloe vera plant and provide the basis for many of the outstanding results to the body, both internally and externally.
2. Essential Vitamins
It’s a known fact that the body lacks the essential vitamins required to live an active, energized lifestyle. Active aloe vera contains vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, B12, C and E, Folic Acid, Niacin, Biotin and Inositol. When the highest quality active aloe vera is used, it ensures the body is ready to operate at its optimum level.
3. Mineral & Enzymes
For overall health and well-being, as well as managing stress levels, it is vital to ensure the body is getting the necessary amount of minerals it needs to function properly. Active aloe vera contains 13 of the 17 essential minerals,(electrolytes), needed for proper nutritional balance, including sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, manganese, copper, zinc, chromium and iron – ensuring an adequate amount of daily needs. These essential minerals are absorbed and utilised immediately upon ingestion.
4. Normalizer and Balancer
Active aloe vera juice, when regularly consumed, will help give a greater feeling of health and well-being, as well as increased energy and balanced weight management through improved gastrointestinal function. This ability to normalize and balance the body’s system allows a more active, energised lifestyle.
5. Therapeutic Benefits
Active aloe vera juice may assist with symptoms of many common ailments – helping relieve the body of pain associated with them. Some of these conditions include ulcers, psoriasis, dermatitis, acne, constipation, mild burns, eczema, mild digestive complaints, mild gastric conditions, sunburn and immune system complaints.
6. Healthy Skin – Anti-ageing Properties
Active aloe vera is widely known to help improve the overall appearance and suppleness of the skin through fibroblasts, also known as cells or corpuscles. The nutritional content in active aloe vera stimulates the skin’s fibroblasts, which produce collagen and elastin, helping the skin be the best it can be when it replenishes itself every 3 – 4 weeks.
Inflammation can cause pain and harm to the body, which can lead to significant discomfort. Active aloe vera contains natural synthesizers that have been known to assist in the areas of arthritis and inflammation, helping to provide soothing relief, without any side effects. There have also been links to active aloe vera supporting joint and muscle mobility.
Packed with natural detoxifying abilities, active aloe vera juice supports the digestive tract, helping to increase protein absorption and improve bowel regularity.
9. Immune Support
Active aloe vera contains polysaccharides, (biological sugars), and saccharides, (naturally occurring sugars). Active aloe vera has a wide range in the size of its biological sugar molecules. A growing body of research now exists demonstrating the role of these active compounds and indicates that these plant sugar complexes may be closely linked to the healthy functioning of the body’s systems.
10. Amino Acids
Amino acids are essential to the healthy functioning of the body. These are the building blocks of protein. Active aloe vera typically provides 20 of the 22 necessary amino acids required by the human body and seven of the eight essential amino acids. These cannot be synthesized by the body and must be obtained through diet.
How much is too much?Ideally you should have about 3-4 tablespoons of aloe vera juice a day. But if having the juice just as it is is difficult for you, simply add it to your fruit juice or smoothie as a healthy boost.
A word of caution: Although healthy, it is advised that you consult a doctor before you consume aloe vera juice as it may have possible side effects.
Full, flavor ,low-fat, super nutritious, very-healthy, and high-in-fiber.
So good for you!
How can this be?
By replacing some of the traditional ingredients (like ground beef) with healthier – yet very flavorful – options, we can reduce the calorie count of these stuffed peppers by 100 calories each! And we totally eliminate the saturated fat and cholesterol! And I added 5 grams of fiber!
Low-fat and super flavorful, these stuffed bell peppers.
* 4 large, sweet bell peppers
* 1 tablespoon olive oil
* 1/2 large sweet onion (or one small), diced small
* 2 - 3 cloves garlic, crushed
* 1 3/4 cups cooked brown rice
* 2 small to medium tomatoes, diced small
* 3/4 cups corn kernels (drained if canned)
* 1/2 cup (one 2.5 ounce can) sliced olives, drained
* 3/4 cup cooked black beans or red beans, lightly rinsed and drained well
* 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley – optional
* 2 teaspoons granulated onion
* 1 teaspoon dried basil
* 1 teaspoon dried oregano
* 1/8 teaspoon paprika
* 3/4 teaspoon salt
* 1/2 cup vegetable broth
* 1/2 cup crumbled, extra-firm (water-packed - not silken) tofu seasoned with 1/2 teaspoon granulated onion and 1/4 teaspoon salt (See note below about alternative toppings.)
1. Cut the bell peppers in half .
2. remove the stem part.
3. Heat oil in a large pan and sauté the diced onions over medium-high heat for 2 to 3 minutes or until they just begin to soften.
4. Add garlic and rice and sauté for one additional minute.
5. Stir in tomatoes, corn, olives, beans, and seasonings. Remove from heat.
6. Remove seeds and membranes from the insides of the peppers. Fill peppers with rice mixture, packing tightly so as to fill with as much mixture as possible. Place peppers in baking dish.
7. Sprinkle tops with crumbled tofu or other topping. (While a tofu or cheese topping really adds to these stuffed peppers, they taste great even without any topping, so if you don't have anything on hand, no worries.)
8. Cover and bake at 375°F for 30 minutes.
I like to use seasoned, crumble tofu instead of cheese for many dishes that normally call for cheese, including these stuffed peppers, because:
1. it’s easy
2. it’s a much healthier option than cheese
3. it tastes good
4. Did I mention it’s easy?
