I’ve been devoted to my skincare routine for quite some time, and although it might sound labor intensive, it really just involves washing with a cleansing oil or balm, following up with a more sudsy wash and finishing with toner serum and moisturizer. I’ve tried scores of oil-based cleansing products over the years, but I recently figured out what makes the difference between one I love and one I just use—and it’s the emulsification factor. this means I’m down with an oil or balm that liquifies when I add water—and if it doesn’t liquify and leaves a Crisco-like feeling on my skin after I’m out.
Cleansing balms are rich cleansing formulas that remove dirt, makeup and impurities from the skin’s surface while also restoring moisture to the skin with their natural oil content. The oil component of cleansing balms latches onto impurities and breaks down makeup, lifting off build-up from the skin’s surface.
The oil content in your cleansing balm also grabs onto excess oil on the skin, clearing it away to prevent clogged pores and breakouts. If your face often feels tight and uncomfortable after cleansing, I’d suggest trying a cleansing balm!
How To Use:Massage your cleansing balm directly onto your face and neck, and add a few drops of warm water to emulsify. Either rinse off or remove with a cloth. Cleansing balms can be used as a pre-cleanse to remove stubborn makeup, and followed with your usual cleanser.
For example, I’ve been using Susan Ciminelli cleansing milk for years, and never had an issue forking over $60 for a bottle because it seriously lasts for like a year. I’ve also loved Drunk Elephant Slaai Makeup-Melting Butter Cleanser and Elemis’ Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm as well, simply because they melt away makeup leave my skin feeling soft and supple. and last but not least,Kate Somerville luxuriously whipped, lightweight facial cleanser gently removes all dirt, oil and stubborn makeup while leaving skin soft and moisturized.
